자기해석이 친환경 행동 의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

Abstract

Environmental issues are getting more important than ever before. Since human activities are considered as one of the main causes of environmental pollution, it is necessary to understand human itself to control and correct their behavior. This study focuses on the role of patience playing in association between interdependent self-construal and intention of eco-friendly behavior. Additionally, we also investigate the moderation effect of belief in others on patience. Survey data was collected by two online surveys of 150 participants with self-report questionnaires. Results show that people with interdependent self-construal are more likely to behave eco-friendly based on high level of patience, while we failed to prove moderation effect of belief in others on patience. Consequently, these findings extend our knowledge of people who behave environmentally friendly and thus provide insight into the development of appropriate strategies for persuading more and more people to decide to go green.

환경에 대한 중요성이 그 어느 때보다도 강조되는 지금, 환경 오염의 주된 원인 중 하나인 인간 행동을 바로잡기 위해서는 행동의 주체인 인간에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 개인의 친환경 행동을 결정하는 선행 변수를 명확히 하고, 해당 변수가 어떤 기저 메커니즘을 통해 어떤 조건에서 강하게 발현되는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 구체적으로는 자기해석이 참을성을 매개로 개인의 친환경 행동 의도에 어떤 영향을 미치며, 타인에 대한 믿음 정도에 따라 자기해석과 참을성 정도의 상관 관계가 어떻게 변화하는지를 파악하고자 했다. 이를 위해 150명의 참가자들을 대상으로 온라인 서베이에 자가 응답하도록 요청하는 두 가지의 실험을 진행했다. 본 연구의 분석 결과, 참을성의 부분 매개 효과가 유의한 것으로 검증되어 상호 의존적 자기해석을 하는 사람들은 더 높은 참을성을 보이며, 이를 바탕으로 보다 높은 친환경 행동 의도를 가진다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 타인에 대한 믿음의 조절된 매개의 효과는 통계적으로 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타나 이와 관련된 가설은 기각되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 친환경 행동을 하는 사람들에 대한 이해를 높임으로써 향후 올바른 친환경 행동의 유인 수단을 개발하는데 있어 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
