외국인 이주민에 대한 한국인의 인식 및 선호

Abstract

본 연구는 4,094명의 한국인을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하여 한국인이 이주민에 대해 갖고 있는 인식 조사를 바탕으로 실시하였다. 설문 조사 결과 첫째로, 설문 참여자 중 대부분은 이주민에 대한 왜곡된 인식을 가지고 있음을 확인하였다. 가령, 외국인 이주민 인구를 실제보다 2배 이상, 외국인 범죄율은 실제 통계보다 3배 정도 과대추정하였다. 둘째로, 하위 집단에 대한 분석을 실시하였을 때, 한국에 거주하는 이주민 중 가장 높은 비중을 가지고 있는 중국동포에 대한 부정적인 인식오류가 타국가 출신 외국인에 비해 두드러졌다. 셋째, 이주민에 대한 인식오류가 이민자 및 이민정책에 대한 태도에 미치는 상관관계를 분석하였을 때 부의 상관관계를 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 이민정책 시행에 있어서 대중의 인식 조사와 그에 맞는 지원에 대하여 새로운 시각이 필요함을 제공한다.

Based on an online survey of 4,094 Korean natives, this paper aims to understand South Koreans' perceptions regarding immigrants and immigration policy preferences. The majority of Korean native participants have a biased view of immigrants. In some cases, they overestimate immigrants' population by more than twice, and immigrants' population size by more than three times. Secondly, comparing subgroups of immigrants, we find that natives have a greater negative perception of Korean Chinese immigrants, who are the largest group of immigrants in Korea. Third, there is a negative correlation between misperceptions toward immigrants and attitudes toward immigrants and immigration policies. The results of this analysis suggest that a new approach to analyzing public perception and support is needed when considering immigration policy.
