조선시대 문자도의 특징을 활용한 한글 그래픽 이미지 포스터 디자인 연구

Abstract

As Hallyu is diffused over the planet as one of several cultural contents beyond tradition, so are other cultural contents in today's society. This indicates that in this globalized era, traditional culture with ethnic features must be inherited and promoted. The discipline of design is the most vulnerable to changes in a society's aesthetic demands. The Korean design industry has recently begun to concentrate on the formation of Korean design impact through Hallyu. With contemporary Hallyu, Korean design from various elements of Korean culture may be carried out into the world. Korean Minhwa, for example, is an important part of Korean traditional art. Traditional Minhwa is a type of practical painting in which Korean forefathers publicly stated their desires in daily life and thereby brought emotional beauty and abundance to the lives of ordinary people. The most special among Korean Minhwa relates to Munjado, which centers around the meaning of letters and the stories associated with them. Munjado, a separate formative language in which shapes and text are skillfully blended and virtually solely observed in East Asian civilizations employing Chinese characters, is more relevant in this study than other types of painting. Furthermore, unlike Munjado in other East Asian nations, Korean Munjado carries an educational purpose. The symbolic shape elements in Korean Munjado are more diverse than those in other East Asian countries and reflect the characteristics and customs of the society at the time. As such, Korean Munjado is distinctive and has specialized research value. The purpose of this research is to explore the unique characteristics of Korean Munjado through analyzing Minhwa based on a literature review and case study. Besides, through a theoretical review, this study investigates Munjado's symbolism and methods of emotional expression. Additionally, this study compares and analyzes the visual designs of contemporary Munjado to the traditional ones so that contemporary usage of Munjado is realized, and studies the methods of emotional expression in Munjado. Lastly, this study suggests ways to utilize the methods of emotional expression using Hangul. Accordingly, this study investigates and observes Korean style Munjado among Asian Minhwa and analyze contemporary design cases for visual expressions to fulfill the purpose of this research which was to analyze how to deliver and express emotions of people a Korean culture with the reinterpretation of Munjado and modern application of Munjado through design activity. As people living in the 18th century Korea were expressing their lives and emotions with Munjado, emotional expressions in modern design can also be expressed with Munjado so that the tradition related to Munjado can be inherited. Along these lines, fashion should instill emotional yearning in modern people and reflect a more Korean design style. In addition, a new direction for modern design for Munjado and more data to refer to in the study for K-Design should be required. I wish Minhwa, a traditional culture, might be investigated more as a material for modern design. Ultimately, the goal of this research is to diversify Hangul character design, enhance traditional culture, and establish Korean culture as a worldwide culture.

한류가 전통을 넘어 다양한 문화 콘텐츠 중에 하나로 전 세계에 유통되는 것과 같이 오늘날의 사회에는 다양한 문화가 유통된다. 이는 세계화 시대의 필연적인 현상으로, 민족적 특성을 띤 전통문화를 계승하고 고양해야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 디자인은 사회의 미적 요구 변화에 가장 민감한 미술 영역이다. 최근 한국 디자인 업계는 한류를 통한 한국 디자인의 영향력 형성에 주목하고 있다. 이를 통해 한국 디자인이 한국 문화 분야에서 폭넓게 전파될 수 있도록 하기 위한 것이다. 한국의 민화는 한국의 전통 예술에서 없어서는 안될 일부분이다. 전통 민화는 한국 선조들이 일상에서 바라던 소망을 자유롭게 표현하여 서민들의 생활을 정서적으로 아름답고 풍요롭게 해주던 실용화이었다. 한국 민화 중에서도 가장 특별한 것은 문자의 의미 및 문자의 의미와 관련된 이야기를 중심으로 한 문자도이다. 문자도는 도형과 문자를 교묘하게 결합한 동아시아의 한자 문화권에서나 볼 수 있는 독특한 조형 언어로서, 다른 회화 형식보다 연구 의의가 크다. 또한 한국 문자도는 다른 동아시아 국가의 기원문자도와 달리 교육적 의미를 담고 있다. 한국 문자도의 상징적 도형 요소는 다른 동아시아 국가보다 더욱 다양하게 나타나며, 당시 사회의 특성과 관습을 주로 반영하였다. 이와 같이 독특한 특징을 가지고 있는 한국 문자도는 전문적으로 연구할 가치가 있는 분야이다. 이에 본 연구는 문헌 조사와 사례 분석을 중심으로 민화에 대한 고찰을 통해 한국 문자도의 고유한 특징을 분석하고자 한다. 또한 문자도에 관한 이론적 고찰을 통해 문자도의 상징성과 감정 표현 방식을 연구한다. 이와 더불어 문자도의 현대적 활용 방식을 발굴하기 위해 오늘날 문자도의 시각적 디자인 작품을 비교·분석하고, 문자도의 감정 표현 방식을 분석한다. 나아가 한글을 소재로 한 문자도의 감정 표현 활용 방안도 제시한다. 따라서 본 연구는 아시아 민화에서 한국적 색채를 가진 문자도를 조사 및 관찰하고, 현대 문자도의 시각화 표현 디자인의 사례를 분석함으로써, 디자인 활동을 통해 한국 문화와 사람들의 감정을 자연스럽게 전달하고 표현할 수 있는 문자도의 재창조 방식과 문자도의 현대화 디자인 방안을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 18세기의 한국 선인들은 문자도로 삶과 감정을 표현했기에 현대 디자인에서의 감정 표현도 문자도로 표현할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 문자도 표현에 대한 선인들의 전통을 계승할 수 있다. 그 과정에서 현대인의 삶과 정서적 욕구를 불어넣고 보다 한국적인 디자인 문화를 제시할 필요가 있다. 또한, 문자도의 현대화 디자인을 위한 새로운 방향을 제시하는 한편, K-DESIGN 연구에 참고할 수 있는 자료를 제시해야 한다. 한국의 전통문화인 민화가 현대적 디자인의 소재로 활용될 수 있도록 다양한 연구 개발이 지속적으로 이어지길 바란다. 또한, 본 연구는 한글 문자 디자인의 다양화와 전통문화의 발전적 계승을 통해 가장 한국적인 문화가 세계적인 문화로서 발전되기를 궁극적 목적으로 한다.
