한국 재난 인식 연구의 성과와 과제 -근대 이전 시기 역사학계의 연구를 중심으로-

Abstract

이 글은 재난이 끊임없이 정치문제가 되었던 역사성을 고려하며, 사회재난이 본격화하고 근대과학이 수용되기 이전인 근대 이전 시기에 국한하여 한국에서의 재난 인식에 관한 연구 동향을 정리한 것이다. 먼저 재난 기록의 신빙성 문제가 제기된 과정을 살펴보며 여러 자료를 교차해 당대의 실상에 접근할 필요성을 제기했다. 이어서 선행 연구에서 주목한 유교적 재이론(災異論)을 통해 한국 재난 인식의 시기별 양상을 살펴보았다. 끝으로 향후 연구 과제로 재난 분석을 위한 자료의 폭을 넓히고, 유교 및 다른 사상에서의 재난 인식을 종합하며, 민중과 사회 일반의 재난 인식에 관한 고찰이 필요한 점 등을 제기했다. 이로써 재난에 관한 역사적 기억의 문제를 되짚어보며 재난인문학의 기초 정립에 일조하고자 했다.

Considering the history of how disasters became political problems for more than thousands of years, the present study organizes the research trends regarding disaster perception in Korea, limited to the premodern period which was before the extensive developments of social disasters and the acceptance of modern science. This study first examines the process in which the credibility of disaster records were questioned and presents the facts of the past by cross-referencing various historical sources. Then, this study examines the syntactic trends regarding Koreas disaster perception through Confucian idea of natural calamity (災異論) that previous studies have focused on. Lastly, this study suggests for future research, in the expansion of materials and sources for disaster analysis, the integration of disaster perception in Confucianism and other ideologies, and the need to explore the disaster perception of the people and the society. Furthermore, this study attempts to contribute to the foundation of disaster humanities by re-examining the problems of historical past disasters.
