Abstract

This paper explores the issue of the convergence of science and the humanities from the perspective of science and technology studies (STS). STS considers science to be a human achievement in a specific social and cultural environment, the essence of which consists in building the heterogeneous network of humans and nonhumans. This paper employs such insights of STS to illuminate the historical, sociological and philosophical dimension in mutual influences and convergence between science and the humanities. The paper first examines the historical relationship between various branches of the sciences and those of the humanities; then, it traces four different origins of the discourse on the convergence between science and the humanities in Korea for the past ten years; and finally, it proposes the significance of the convergence between science and the humanities, for it can bring about the assemblage of facts and values in solving imminent problems of the anthropocene epoch.
