Exploring the Dynamics of Gender Role Attitudes in Morocco: A Socio-Cultural Examination of Differences between Men and Women in Diverse Contexts Sara Bentaher International Development Graduate School of International Studies Seoul National University

This research delves into the complex dynamics of gender role attitudes within Moroccan society, examining differences between men and women across various contexts. Drawing on data from the World Values Survey and existing literature, the study reveals pervasive disparities in gender role attitudes between men and women, where women consistently demonstrate more progressive and egalitarian perspectives than men. While traditional attitudes persist, a significant proportion of women exhibit progressive beliefs, challenging established norms. This mirrors global trends where women's increasing participation in the workforce redefines conventional gender roles. In contrast, men, despite societal expectations, often uphold traditional beliefs, confining women to domestic and care roles. The study also, reveals a notable urban-rural divide, with urban areas fostering more progressive attitudes, aligning with diverse perspectives in these settings. Intriguingly, older generations, both men and women, showcase progressive attitudes, challenging stereotypes of age-related conservatism. In addition, mixed secular values, higher education, and economic activities emerge as influential factors shaping egalitarian gender role attitudes particularly among Men. 이 연구는 모로코 사회에서 성 역할 태도의 복잡한 역학을 탐구하여 모로코의 성 역할 태도에서 성 차이를 살펴봅니다. 세계 가치 조사와 기존 문헌에서 얻은 데이터를 기반으로, 이 연구는 문화적으로 풍부하고 다양한 맥락에서 성 역할의 진화하는 역학을 밝혀냅니다. 이 연구는 모로코에서 남성과 여성 간의 성 역할 태도에서 중요한 차이를 드러냅니다. 전통적인 태도는 여전히 존재하지만, 상당수의 여성들은 기존의 규범에 도전하여 진보적인 견해를 나타냅니다. 이는 여성들이 더 많이 직장에서 참여함에 따라 전통적인 성 역할을 재정의하는 세계적인 트렌드를 반영합니다. 반면, 사회적 기대에도 불구하고 남성들은 종종 전통적인 신념을 고수하여 여성을 가정 역할로 한정시킵니다. 이 연구는 또한 도시와 농촌 사이에 주목할만한 차이를 보여주며, 도시 지역이 더 진보적인 태도를 촉진하고 이러한 환경에서 다양한 관점과 일치한다는 점을 보여줍니다. 흥미롭게도 연구에서는 고령 세대, 남성 및 여성 모두가 고령자 관련 보수주의의 편견에 도전하는 진보적인 태도를 나타냅니다. 뿐만 아니라, 종교적 가치의 혼합, 고등 교육 및 경제 활동은 특히 남성들 사이에서 평등한 성 역할 태도를 형성하는 데 영향을 미치는 중요한 요인으로 나타납니다.
