Abstract

In recent years, the need for various types of dictionaries has greatly increased. Dictionnaire Explicatif et Combinatoire(DEC) is a special dictionary which was designed and has been compiled by I. A. Mel'čuk and his colleagues in Université de Montreal. This dictionary purports to represent native speakers' lexical knowledge in entirety, and is famous for its rigorous principles and criteria for describing this knowledge. Especially, definition, syntactic properties, and collocational properties of lexical items are presented explicitly and carefully. DEC uses a special device called Lexical Function to describe lexical collocational relations. In this paper, various principles and criteria for elaborating lexicographic informations in DEC are presented, and the prospects of applying these methods to design a new type of Korean dictionary are explored.
