Abstract

Korean firms have a long history of managing technology only based on imitation. Now

Korean firms should make a structural change in technology management, from the current

state that relies on imitation, to the new state that pursues an innovation. Bio-industry has an

unique characteristics of copying technology being not viable so that an innovative

technology management is a must. Thus bio-industry is a sample, different from other

industries. This paper examines the structural weaknesses of conventional technology

management techniques that most Korean firms have heavily relied on in the past. And it

further shows how and in what direction bio-industry firms should implement technology

management strategies.
