Abstract
This study suggests a strategic innovation as a way of improving a firms competitiveness. A

strategic innovation is defined as a strategy that is different from and creates a higher value

than the existing strategy that is dominant in an industry. This research first defines the basic

concept of a strategic innovation and explores when and how strategic innovations are

effective. The study also presents that a strategic innovation is critical to the radical

improvement of a firms competitiveness. Finally, this paper explains why a strategic

innovation should be a crucial element in the roles of top managers.
