dc.description.abstractIn this paper we study a variation of newsboy model, which deals with a perishable product.

Our model distinguishes itself from the traditional newsboy model in that the producer offers

an early discount to the potential customers. Both the producer and the consumers can

benefit from the discount program. The producer can reduce the variability of consumer

demand and the consumers can get the products at lower price. Recently we see several

companies producing air conditioners offer discounts in winter to the consumers who reserve

for purchase during summer.
