- Abstract
- We say that consciusness consists of an intra-psychic flux or a train of ideas, which may be explained by the arrow of time. But I think this statement is acceptable only as it applies to our conscious psyche. If we study the functioning of the unconscious psyche, the validity of this statement is questionable. For, as we can find, the primitive men or children lack the ability of consciously counting time. They rather live in a vaguely perceived stream of time where only a few emotionally important event are clearly perceived. M. Kliade calls unconscious time such as one in a dream state, ecstasy or intoxication the primordial time. This time is often described not as a time but as a creative durée in the sense of Bergson. This mythical idea of a primordial time seem to coincide with what modern depth pschology would now call the unconscious.
