- Abstract
- The religious meaning of Kang Yu-weis Ta-t'ung theory first appeared in the preface of the 『Ta-t 'ung shih』 . In the preface there is "at the war of the China and the France, I am so impressed and angry about the people's trouble so I wrote the 『Ta-t'ung shih』 ". The war strongly influenced the organization of the theory because it started from recognizing the pain. Kang Yu-wei regarded the world as pain, that is the endless suffering. The suffering world never ends and difficult to figure out. He classified the suffering into birth, life, rule, human emotion and class-status (人生之苦, 人道之苦, 人治之苦, 人情之苦, 人所尊尙之苦). He thought the cause of suffering as the boundary like a state, a family, a nation, etc, so he insisted to remove the nine boundary of suffering in order to bring the happiness to all the human nature. All the more, he shows strong emotion to save the people from pain and Kang Yu-wei's Ta-t'ung theory in a way contains the theory of the salvation. Ta-tung theory starts off with the realistic request but it develops into the realization of the ideal salvation after the theory blends with Taoism, Mojia, Buddhism and Confucianism.
