- Abstract
- Religion has almost always been subject to criticism in the existing feminist studies. This dissertation is to illuminate the influence of religion on the women's movement through the explanation for discontinuous period (1920-1963) of American women's movement. Above all things, 'True Womanhood' and 'Domesticity' was the important ideological bases of the lst wave feminism. And the Protestantism that combined intellectual enlightenment and liberalism had influenced on the growth and the elevation of these values. Christian domesticity represented by the cult of the true womanhood guaranteed women activity area, and the l st wave feminists developed
women's movement focusing on the moral crusade within this Christian limit.
