Abstract
This paper attempts to show the origin of dualism in JudeoChrisitian tradition. Close analysis of 1QS, so-called "Discipline of Community," which was discovered in 1948 in Qumran, reveals that Christian dualism found in New Testament has its precedents in many Qumran documents, especially in 1QS. Previous scholarship traced its origin mainly from inner development of Judaism or from Hellenistic influence. The writer argues for the Zoroastian origin of dualism on 1QS. Jews during the Achaemenid period between 6th to 4th century BCE naturally contacted Zoroastrian religion. Such contact gave a heavy impact on Judaism in many areas: dualism, eschatology, angelology etc. This study demands a new perspective on Christian origin of dualism.
