- Abstract
- This thesis tries to study the change of women "body project" discourse in 190~ 1920s. Social Darwinism, surgical operation, vaccine inoculation for smallpox and cholera, a sanitary police system introduced into Choseon(朝鮮) from the West in the early 20th century changed the attitude toward body. These caused changes in the traditional thoughts that to train the spirit was more important than to train the body. Such an attitude towards body also influenced the system of discourses in academic journals. In 1900~1910s, women body was very important for the foundation of nation-state. Therefore the increase of childbirth and discipline of women were emphasized and women had to be healthy through exercise and education. On the other hand, in 1920s women"s body had to be beautiful for men to appreciate. That time the beauty of women"s body was the modernity of the art.
