Abstract
The -neungyo, the interrogative ending of the Gyeongsang dialect, is used as the haso degree or haiso-haso degree on the honorific system for hearer. This usage aspect is confirmed by actual conversational data. The former opinion on the origin of -neungyo, that it was originally the ending --neungayo, is denied from some grounds, i.e. disagreement of degree on the honorific systems for hearer, appearance at unique sentence construction of Gyeongsang dialect. The -neungyo is regarded that it originally started from the construction -neun geos(formal noun)-i(copula)-yo(ending), and underwent the process of grammaticalization.
