인터넷 게시판 댓글의 공공성 평가에 미치는 요인

Abstract

인터넷 게시판에서 댓글의 언어 공공성을 검증하는 일련의 연구들은 외부의 전문가 입장에서 공공성을 측정함에 따라 언어행위의 주체인 참여자들의 평가를 반영하지 못했다. 본 논문에서는 온라인 참여자의 메시지 수신의 직접성과 주변 댓글 제시 여부를 변인으로 댓글에 대한 공공성 평가의 차이점을 실험연구를 통해 알아보았다. 연구 결과, 피험자들은 공공성 평가 대상인 댓글을 3자로서 관찰하는 입장일 때보다는 직접 수신하는 입장이었을 때 언어 공공성을 낮게 평가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 평가 대상 메시지가 단독으로 제시되었을 때는 부정적인 주변 댓글이 주위에 존재할 때보다 공공성을 낮게 평가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 매개 환경에서 자신에게 향하는 메시지에 대해서는 부정적 요소에 보다 민감하게 반응하는 인터넷의 채널 특성에 기인하는 것으로 볼 수 있으며, 주변 메시지들이 공공성 낮은 표현을 더 많이 포함할 경우 이를 집단 규범으로 인지함에 따라 평가 대상 메시지의 공공성을 상대적으로 높게 평가하는 경향이 있는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이상의 연구 결과는 언어 사용자의 공공성 평가가 상대적인 것으로서, 인터넷의 플레이밍이나 악성 댓글 등의 판단에서 이를 고려해야 함을 시사한다. It is argued that message-directness and context of message interpretation have some impacts on the evaluation of publicness because involvement and group norms affect receivers judgment. This study conducted experiment to verify the effects of two factors on the publicness of online messages. The results showed that readers evaluate less publicness when they are direct receiver of the replied comments than when they are indirect receiver. The effect of contextual information was also found. However, there was no interaction effect between moderating variables, that is, directness and context. In the subsequent analysis on the factors of politeness, neutrality and communicability showed significant differences by the directness of message reception. And politeness showed significant difference by the context of message interpretation. Those results imply that message-directness and context of message interpretation influence on the perception of publicness both in the content and form of the messages.
