dc.description.abstractBased on the author's recent book on Japanese Colonial Rule in Korea, this article begins with a
brief review of the formulation, development, and the essential characteristics of the Japanese
Imperialism. Dividing the period of the Japanese colonial rule into the four stages of preparation
(1905-1910). formulation (1910-1919), appeasement (1919-1931), communications basing &
wartime mobilization (1931-1945), the author tried to outline the policies of each period. Finally
the characteristics of Japanese colonial policies and their impacts on the post-emancipatory politics
and administration of Korea are examined.
