| dc.description.abstract | The failure of the Bretton Woods system has its roots in the Triffin Dilemma and the
imbalance in the current accounts. Thanks to the reconstruction of West German and Japanese economies, dollar shortage was overcome, but afterwards the confidence in dollar dropped which culminated in the fall of the system. However, the role of the dollar as an international currency sustained with accumulation of the global imbalances. This situation did not change much even after the world financial crisis of 2008. Historical interpretation with diagnosis and prescription is tried. | - |
