형이상학에서 가치론까지 －김영정 교수를 그리며－

Abstract

이 글은 고 김영정교수의 철학적 작업의 함축과 가치를 지난 30년간의 분석철학의 발전의 맥락에서 해명하고 발전시킨다. 첫 부분은 김교수 철학함의 스타일 그리고 주로 논리학과 수리논리와 관련된 작업들을 소개하고 그 가치를 설명한다. 두 번째 부분은 김교수의 형이상학 및 존재론에 관한 논의를 개괄하고, 사건 존재론의 철학적 의의를 전통적 두 범주 존재론과 대비를 통해 해명한다. 필자의 주요 논증은 제3 범주로서의 김재권식 사건존재론의 성립여부는 치셤, 김영정식의 전통적 두범주 존재론의 존재론적 환원에 달려 있으며, 데이비슨식 그것은 콰인식의 존재론적 환원의 성립여부에 의존한다는 내용이다. 널리 받아들여지는 견해와는 달리 필자는, 데이비슨식 개별자 사건존재론은 본질적 모호성과 형이상학적 긴장을 깊이 감춘 이론이라고 논증한다. 마지막으로 형이상학과 가치론의 통합이라는 어려운 철학함의 가치를 음미한다. In this lecture, I review and evaluate the implications of Professor Kim, Young-Jungs philosophical works. First, I review his unique style of philosophizing, related mainly to logic and metalogical works. In the second part, I draw attention to the deep philosophical implication of Prof. Kims ontological reduction project concerning the contemporary event ontology championed by Jaegwon Kim and/or D. Davidson. Unlike Jaegwon Kims fine-grained event particular ontology, I argue that Davidsonian event ontology does not fit well into the third category ontology. The Davidsonian view, I claim, hides deep ontological tension generated by his ambivalent attitude toward W. Quines famous temporal parts monistic ontology. Finally, I try to show that any metaphysical view cannot be complete without making ones value commitment sensible within its coherent world view.
