베르그손에서 창조적 정서와 열린 사회

Abstract

이 글은 베르그손의 창조적 정서 개념이 도덕적 행위의 원천이자 사회 진화의 원동력이 될 수 있음을 해명한다. 『창조적 진화』에서 물질을 극복하며 생존에 성공한 지성적 인류는 『도덕과 종교의 두 원천』에서 지성 만으로는 해결되지 않는 도덕적 난관에 봉착한다. 전쟁 본능과 이기주의적 지성이라는 인간의 자연적 조건을 넘어서 닫힌 사회를 열린 사회로 진보시 키기 위한 자발적 실천을 이끌어내는 데는 이성의 논리적 설득이 아니라 창조적 정서의 감동이 효과적이다. 창조적 정서는 초－지성적인 특별한 개 인들을 매개로 전파되는 근원적인 생명의 힘이자 보편적 인류애이며 민주 주의에 대한 열망이다. 본능에 기초한 사회적 압력과 직관에 근거한 창조 적 정서 사이의 상호침투 관계가 지성적 인간 사회의 진보와 정의 실현에 주요 요인이다. 베르그손은 창조적 정서를 통해서 인식과 행위, 이론과 실 천 사이의 간극을 성공적으로 매개하고, 개체성과 사회성을 넘어서는 새로 운 인류 공동체의 가능성을 제시한다. This paper explicates that H. Bergsons creative emotion could be the springs of dynamic morality and a driving force of social evolution. Intelligent mankind who has succeeded in overcoming materiality in Creative Evolution, confronts a moral difficulty that cannot be solved by intelligence alone in The Two Sources of Morality and Religion. Aspiration arisen from creative emotion than logical persuasion is more effective for making people control their natural states, that is, the instinct for war and selfish intelligence and change a closed society into an open one. Creative emotion is a sensibility of the élan vital for progressive advance, the universal love of mankind, and the aspiration of democracy that is spread through the medium of supra-intelligent, privileged souls. The interacting relationship between the social pressure of instinct and the creative emotion of intuition is a main factor in the progress and the realization of justice of an intelligent society. Bergsons creative emotion opens up the possibility of a new human community which can bridge the gap between knowledge and action, between theory and practice, and go beyond both individuality and sociality.
