외적 충격으로부터 어떻게 내면이 구축되는가? －데카르트의 물체 충돌 규칙과 스피노자의 변용(affectio) 개념－

Abstract

자기 본성의 법칙에 따른 삶과 외적 원인에 종속되는 삶의 대조에서 보이듯, 내부와 외부의 구별은 스피노자 윤리학의 근간이다. 하지만 이 구별은 그의 철학에서 가장 애매한 부분이기도 하다. 내면성이 그의 철학에선 우선 신체의 개체성을 바탕으로 인식되며, 개체성은 또한 개체화의 견지에서 인식됨에 주목하여, 본 논문은 내부와 외부를 가르는 경계 대신, 그가 표방하는 보편적인 기계론적 질서 내에서 한 물체의 내면이 어떻게 구축되는지를 묻는다. 특 히 보존 속에서의 변화, 곧 변용의 개념을 밝히기 위해, 외적 인과성의 범형인 데카르트의 충돌 법칙이 스피노자의 초기 글 <데카르트의 철학의 원리>에서 재정식화되고 다시 󰡔윤리학󰡕에서 신체 변용 개념으로 변형되는 과정을 검토한다. 결국 충돌하는 물체들 안팎의 유동체의 역할을 축으로, 기계론적인 외적규정의 질서 안에서도 개체의 내면성이 어떻게 발생하는지, 그럼에도 개체가 왜 여전히 외적 규정의 질서 안에 머무르는지가 밝혀진다.

As is suggested by the opposition between a life in conformity with the laws of ones own nature and that subjected to the power of external causes, the distinction between the interior and the exterior constitutes the backbone of Spinozas ethics. This distinction is, however, the most elusive issue in his philosophical system. Considering the fact that the interiority of an individual is presented above all in terms of corporeal individuality, and the individuality in terms of individuation in his Ethics, I inquire, instead of what is the exact criterion for this distinction, how the interiority of an individual is constructed in the universal mechanistic order as is claimed by Spinoza. More specifically, I elucidate the mechanism of affection by which a body is preserved via its modification. I examine for this Spinozas reformulation of Cartesian collision rules in one of his early writings, Renati Des Cartes principiorum philosophiae, to see how the collision model is mutated into the mechanism of affectio in his Ethics. I conclude that fluids, which are both inside and outside the colliding bodies, make room for the interiority of each individual while the individual still remains in the order of external determinations.
