이해와 오해, 그리고 몰이해 - 니체철학 번역방법에 대한 모색과 회고 -

Abstract

이 글은 니체철학에 대한 적절한 번역방법을 니체의 관점주의 속에 서 찾아내는 실험을 한 후, 그것을 적용하여 한글판 니체 전집(KGW)의 번역원칙과 번역상황을 점검해보려 한다. 관점주의는 이해를 오해로, 번역을 반역으로 규정하기에, 그 속에서 번역방법을 모색하는 것은 매우 역설적인 시도일 수도 있다. 하지만 관점주의는 동시에 섬세함(Feinheit)을 번역의 규준으로 요청한다. 그것은 이해가 오해이고, 번역은 반역이라는 필연적 한계에 대한 인정, 그럼에도 불구하고 한계를 넘어보려는 좋은 의지와 삶에 대한 실천적 관심의 지속을 주요 내용으로 한다. 그래서 이 시도는 니체 자신의 철학적 태도와 방식을 수용하여 그의 글을 번역하고 그 번역을 평가해보는 실험이며, 그렇기에 소통이라는 번역의 존재이유를 충족시키는 실험이다. 한글판 니체전집(KGW)이 제시한 번역원칙과 번역서들은 섬세한 번역의한 경우가 될 수 있다. 하지만 주석의 최소화 원칙은 섬세한 번역을 방해하는 방식일 수 있으며, 번역원칙을 따르지 않아서 발생하는 번역서의 신뢰도 문제는 섬세한 해석 자체에 대한 회의를 불러일으킨다. 따라서 니체의 번역적 이상을 구현하기 위한 적극적인 논의의 장이 필요한 시점이다.

The paper attempts to find an appropriate translation method for Nietzsches philosophy in his perspectivism. Then it is applied to examine the translation rules and translated state shown in the Korean translation of the complete works of Nietzsche (KGW). Because perspectivism regards understanding as misunderstanding and translation as mistranslation, it can be considered as a very paradoxical attempt searching for an appropriate translation method in his perspectivism. However, it simultaneously requires fineness as a translation rule. It admits the inevitable limitation that understanding is misunderstanding and translation is mistranslation, Nonetheless it contains the will to overcome the limitation and the continuation of practical interest in life. Thus it is an experiment of translating his works and evaluating their translation by accepting his philosophical attitude and mode. Consequently it satisfies a raison dêtre of translation, which is communication. The translation rules, which are provided and executed in the Korean translation of Nietzsche, may fulfill the fineness requirement. However, minimal footnote rule may be dangerous in that it hinders fine translation. The problem of translation credibility, brought about by not observing the translation rules, casts doubt on the fine translation. Therefore it is time to make a place for discussion in order to achieve an ideal state of translation of Nietzsche.
