- Abstract
- In the study of East Asian cultural exchanges, Flowering Plants has rarely been discussed. In East Asian, beginning in the early times of history, various flowers such as the chrysanthemum, pomegranate, peony, and royal azalea flowers were disseminated, and altered according to climate, to funish the gardens of late Joseons literati.
Especially the 18-19th centuries saw importations of many flowers beginning with the Narcissus, Begonia, and Chinese Vibrunum during the the Envoys Traveling to Beijing, but detailed accounts are not available. This paper attempted to investigate what kind of flower was imported through what kind of means by using 19th century documents. It was confirmed that in the late 17th century, Narcissus, Begonia, Chinese Vibrunum, etc. were imported again around the late 18th century through Envoys Traveling to Beijing.
