- Abstract
- This paper analyzed the locational advantages and problems of Russias Far Eastern Free Export Zones(FEZ) by comparing them with the general locational characteristic of the existing FEZ in Asian countries.
The establishment of Free Export Zones in the Far Eastern region of Russia was a part of the Siberia Development Planning effort initiated in 1988 as a part of Gorbachovs open-door policy, and the other planning was initiated by the UNDP project for North East Asia Economic Corporation. Practically, the emergence of Siberia s FEZ results from the failure of the traditional policy of Economic Region development particularly in Pacific Siberia and the new policy to reach the Pacific Rim Area. Currently, the Nachodka FEZ is already designated for development, and two other areas, lower Tumen Rìver area and Greater Vladivostok Region, are under consideration.
