한국전통 아동교육이 발달지체아동 교육에 주는 함의

Abstract

최근 발달지체 아동의 교육을 위해서 다양한 환경, 특히 가정, 학교, 지역사회와 연계된 생활중심의 교육이 강조되고 있다. 그러나 교과중심으로 수업이 진행되는 학교의 특성상 이들에게 충분한 생활중심의 교육을 실시하기가 쉽지 않으며, 비록 실시된다고 하더라도 각각의 연령에 적합한 생활중심의 개별화교육계획(IEP)을 실천하기에 어려움이 있는 것도 현실이다. 따라서 이를 보완하기 위하여 학교교육에 모든 문제를 맡기기 이전에 발달지체 아동의 교육을 위하여 학교와 가정이 연계된 생활중심의 교육을 강화할 필요가 있다. 이는 교육자로서의 부모의 역할을 강조하는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 비록 가정에서 생활을 중심으로 하여 아동에게 교육을 시키고자 할지라도, 전통사회가 붕괴된 이후 가정에서 무엇을 어떻게 지도해야 하는지에 대한 대안은 그다지 다양하게 제시되고 있지 않은 실정이다. 이러한 관점에서 비록 직접적으로 장애아동의 교육을 언급한 것은 아니지만, 장애아동의 교육목적이 일반교육과 다르지 않은 현재의 특수교육 이념에 따르면, 이덕무의 『士小節』은 가정교육의 중요성, 생활교육의 내용과 방법, 교사로서의 부모 역할 등에 관하여 현대 특수교육에 시사하는 바가 크다고 할 수 있다. 이는 다양한 학문 영역간의 협력을 통한 장애아동 교육의 지원이라는 간학문적 접근(interdisciplinary approach)의 수단을 시간적으로 과거까지 확장하는 새로운 시도라는 점에서도 의의가 크다고 할 수 있다.

Life-centered education programs which link together home, school, and different communities are important for children with developmental delays. However, it is not straightforward to teach children with developmental delays in life-centered programs at school, because most school programs are filled with academic subjects. Even though children with developmental delays have a opportunity to learn life-centered skills, it is not sufficient to reach their IEP goals at school. Therefore, it needs to establish the bridge between school and home for teaching children with developmental delays by life-centered education programs. From this view point, strengthening home education for children with development delays is as important as teaching them at school. However, finding a good model to teach children at home is difficult. Modern special education ideology is not different from that of general education. Thus even though Sasojol written by Dukmoo Lee did not explain about children with developmental delays, it is possible to adapt his concept as a special education method. Lee has excellent suggestions for how to teach, how to construct the curriculum, and how to help the parents at home. Adapting Sasojol's approach as a home teaching method in contemporary society is very useful for children with development delays. In addition further implication of this approach can be signified when applied in interdisciplinary setting for children with developmental delays.
