공과대학 남녀 학생의 전공 수업관련 심리변인을 예측하는 역할모델 변인 탐구

Abstract

본 연구는 환경에서 공과대학 여학생들에게 진로장벽의 하나로 인식되는 역할모델 부재를 심도있게 연구하고자, 첫째 공대 학생들이 역할모델을 찾는 매개체를 다양하게 분류하여 이것이 공과대학 남학생과 어떻게 다른지 조사하였고, 둘째 이러한 각기 다른 역할모델을 찾는 매개체가 공과대학 학생들의 중요한 학업관련 심리적 변인을 어떻게 예측하는지 알아보았다. 공과대학 환경에서 역할모델을 찾을 수 있는 매개체는 5가지 영역(학생들에게 학과 선배, 졸업한 선배, 교수 중에서 역할모델이 있는지, 교수의 수업 중 사용 예시와 과제를 하면서 역할모델을 찾을 수 있었는지)으로 나누었다. 본 연구는 경기도의 종합사립대학교의 공학전공 남녀학생 956명을 대상으로 하였다. 공과대학에서 다양한 역할모델을 찾는 경험에서 남녀 간 유의한 차이가 있는지에 대해 검증한 결과, 학과 선배 중 역할모델 있는지를 제외한 네 가지 영역에서 공과대학 여학생이 남학생에 비하여 유의하게 낮았다. 남녀 공대생의 학업관련 변인, 즉 학업적 유능감, 전공수업 적응, 전공수업 몰입을 예측하는지 알아보기 위하여 중다회귀분석을 실시한 결과 남학생은 두 가지 역할모델 변인이 유의하게 예측하는 반면, 여학생은 하나의 역할모델 변인만이 학업관련 변인을 예측하였다. 공과대학 여학생들에게 다양한 경로의 역할모델을 제공하는 것이 중요하다는 점이 본 연구를 통하여 시사되었다.

This study tested the effect of role models of engineering students and how they are different between male and female students. Subjects were 956 male and female engineering students. The results showed that female students lacked role models in various areas compared to male engineering students. Also, the existence of same gender professors in the learning environment was the key element of female and male students' academic competence, adjustment to the classes, and involvements in the class. This results indicated that female engineering students are suffering from the career barriers in their environments and the implications are discussed.
