대학 강의 개선을 위한 수업컨설팅 사례 분석

Abstract

수업컨설팅은 대학의 대표적인 교수지원 프로그램이다. 본 연구는 수도권에 위치한 A 대학의 사례를 통해 수업컨설팅이 강의 개선에 미치는 효과를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 2009년 A 대학에서 수업컨설 팅에 참여한 15명의 교원들의 수업컨설팅 자료, 그룹 인터뷰 자료, 학생 만족도 평가 자료 등을 토대로 수업컨설 팅 절차, 교수들의 참여 동기, 진단된 문제와 개선 방향, 수업개선의 효과 등을 분석하였다. A대학은 학기 별로 전문 컨설턴트에 의한 일대일 수업컨설팅과 동료컨설팅이 혼합된 형태의 수업컨설팅 프로그램을 운영하고 있었 다. 수업컨설팅 참여 교수들은 학생들의 낮은 수업 참여도, 미흡한 학습 내용 이해, 저조한 강의평가 점수 등을 이유로 수업컨설팅을 신청하였다. 수업컨설팅 결과, 교수들의 교수활동에 대한 근본적인 이해가 부족한 경우가 많았으며, 학생들의 학습 촉진 미흡, 강의의 비구조화, 원활하지 못한 상호작용, 교수기법의 부정확한 적용, 불필 요한 행동습관 등이 수업의 문제점으로 진단되었다. 이 중 교실에서의 행동수정과 같이 상대적으로 적은 노력이 요구되는 개선안은 쉽게 수업에 반영되었다. 수업컨설팅 전후 시행된 9문항의 학생 강의만족도 조사에서 15명의 참여 교수 중 11명의 교수에게서 상승한 강의만족도 문항이 하락한 강의만족도 문항에 비해 많은 것으로 나타났 다. 수업컨설팅은 참여 교수자들에게 교수(teaching)에 대해 성찰할 수 있는 기회를 주었다는 점에서 대학교육 의 질 개선에 유의미한 방안이라고 평가할 수 있다.

The purpose of this research is to examine the effectiveness of instructional consultation which is based on videotaping of class, and to analyze the motivation of participating in instructional consultation, problems in teaching and learning, proposals of improvement, and the result of students' satisfaction. Fifteen professors of university A located in the capital area participated in instructional consultation in 2009. As a result, professors indicated the motives of participating in this consultation to be bad interactive relationship of their students, low students' satisfactions, improvement of teaching styles, obtaining special types of teaching methods, etc. The consultant identified the problems in encouraging students' study, organizing of teaching contents, having interactive relationship with students, applying special teaching methods, and unnecessary teaching habits, and then suggested the improvement strategies. The professors changed their teaching strategies, such as unnecessary teaching habits, that were easy to improve preferentially. After the instructional consultation, 11 professors got the increased scores of students' satisfaction items. The instructional consultation program is effective for providing with professors reflections on their teaching and learning.
