교육열망과 학습참여가 학업성취의 불평등에 미치는 영향: 공교육, 사교육, 자기주도학습에 대한 비교분석

Abstract

한국청소년들은 세계적으로 높은 수준의 학업성취도를 유지하고 있지만 유사한 수준의 성적을 기록하는 다른 사회의 학생들에 비하여 학습을 위해 많은 시간을 소모하는 편이다. 한국청소년들의 학업성취과정을 구체적으로 규명해보기 위해 위계적 회귀분석과 경로분석을 이용하여 한국청소년패널조사 자료를 분석한 연구결과는 다음 과 같다. (1) 사회경제적 지위가 높은 부모의 자녀들은 그들의 부모와 함께 높은 수준의 교육열망을 공유하는 경향이 있다. (2) 자녀의 교육열망은 학습참여와 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 핵심요인이다. (3) 학습유형을 공 교육, 사교육, 자기주도학습으로 구분하여 각 유형별 학습참여의 정도가 대학수학능력시험성적에 미치는 영향력 을 비교해 보면, 공교육의 효과가 가장 크며, 사교육의 효율성은 -일반적인 사회적 통념과는 달리- 자기주도학 습보다 낮은 것으로 나타났다.

Academic achievement of Korean adolescents is recognized as one of the highest in the world. However, Korean teenagers spend far more time studying compared to those from other countries who earn similar scores. In order to probe into the learning process of Korean high school students, this paper analyses data obtained from the Korean Youth Panel Survey while using the hierarchical regression analysis and path analysis. The main results are as follow. (1) Students whose parents are of a higher socioeconomic status tend to have higher educational aspiration similar to their parents. (2) Educational aspiration of the students is evaluated as a decisive factor which influences their educational participation and academic achievement. (3) Among the three types of educational participation methods (public, private, and self-directed), public education appears to be more effective for improving College Scholastic Ability Test scores, whereas the efficacy of private education is even lower than that of self-directed learning contrary to the common expectation in Korean society.
