Abstract
In the southern part of the Korean peninsular, there are many piedmont surfaces along the foot of high mountains. Among them, the western piedmont surface of Mt. Waryong has been designated as one of the typical alluvial fans in Korea for a long time, since its form is very similar to that of an alluvial fan.

But that designation was not based on the intensive investigation. Moreover, although piedmont surfaces are pointed out that they generally reflect the bed rock form in the southern part of Korea. Accordingly, it is questioned if this piedmont

surface is an alluvial fan from the viewpoint of the process-form relationship. The purpose of this study is to clarify it. For this, its form and morphogenesis has ,been investigated by the field observation ,and topographic map analysis. The field ,observation has been carried out whenever necessary from October 1981 to March 1983. 1/50,000 and 1/25,000 topographic map have been used for map analysis. The conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. In form, this piedmont surface possesses the characteristics of alluvial fans and pediments. 2. Sediments of this piedmont surface was deposited sheetly by mass movement in the state of liquid mass. 3. The bed rock form of this piedmont surface is as flat in plan as the form of this piedmont surface. Its flatness was attained in the deeply decomposed state before the covering of sediments .
