Abstract
This paper is aimed at investigating the spatial distributions of population age structures and its variations in the administrative divisions(Dong,洞) of Pusan City which is ranked at the second in terms of the rank size of the whole Korean cities and as of 1980, stands at the estimated number of 3.2millions.

In order to fulfill the purpose of the study, total 800 administrative divisions were delineated to extract the data of population in the each census year of 1966, 1970, 1975 and 1980. As a main technique of the analysis the Age Structure Index, a meaningful

idea Coulsor: originally came up with, was employed. The main results are summarized as follow. 1) From 1966 to 1980, the age structure in Pusan City remarkably had shifted to

the older age structure, and the pattern of the spatial distributions of age structures changed considerably, too. In short, the age structures in 1966 were generally exhibited to be the youthful age structures, with the exception of a part of the outskirts; however, in 1970 the main grouping of the old age structures clustered roughly within and near the Central Business District, and the age structure had shifted the older one in the study area. As the time had passed by, these phenomena had been deepened and also extended, in particular. As a result, in 1975 the N-S axis of the old age structures was formed along a main trunk road from the CBD. And then the pattern of the spatial distributions of age structures showed the regular sequence of the older-the younger-the older, with the spatial arrangement changing repeatedly from the CBD to the outskirts (expecially, toward northern district) in turn. Afterward, in 1980 the N -S axis of the old age structures appeared very distinctively, especially extending toward northern direction. On the other hand, the regular sequence of the older-the younger-the older was seen in the spatial arrangement from the N-S axis toward both eastern and western direction, differing with 1975.
