Abstract
Transportation researchers have shownan increased interest in transportation attributes, progressed from exclusive reliance on travel time and cost, to concern with so-called soft variables such as comfort, flexibility and personal safety.

Two fundamental tasks involved are 1) to identify relevant attributes, and 2) to measure them on a scale that permits direct comparison one to the other.

The accomplishment of these research tasks is a precondition to the development of sound travel-demand models and effective policy measures. Research in the field of transportation attributes has largely been limited to Western cities whose transportation tends to be

dominated by passenger cars. Little knowledge has been put forward with regard to those cities such as Seoul which is highly dependent upon public means of transportation. There are ten major

means of transportation in Seoul: the modes of auto-driver, auto-passenger, taxi, subway, bus, express bus, bicycle, motorcycle, walk, and subscription bus, among which the ridership of auto-driver

and auto-passenger mode together accounts for less than 10% of the city-wide passenger traffic.
