Some specific characters are found through this study. Firstly, the Mormon was the largest group in scale and well-organized group as well. The Mormon, a distinctive American subculture, was a small religious group in conflict with the larger Gentile, and it needed a powerful leadership. Secondly, the Mormon movement was for permanent settlement. In this point, Mormons are different from those who went to the west for gold. Thirdly, the Mormon exodus to the West was unique in that it was a movement of an entire family group. Consequently the sex ratio in Utah between 1860,.....,1880 indicated 100, and it was very distinctive among the groups participated in the westward movement.
