- Abstract
- This study empirically examines various aspects of regional consciousness which has been neglected in the discipline of geography. And this study specifically aims: first, to approach the entity of consciousness by residents which forms the underlying background of regionalism, second, to investigate the desirable image of the region and the ideal feature on regional development in order to reflect the demand of residents for participation in regional policies, third, to identify the residents' recognition of regional movement, its feasibility into active participation, and the influence by groups leading the movement on residents. This is on the premise that in cast the regional consciousness is consolidated and activated, community organizations are put forth as a token for positive measure and active regional movements are concurrently initiated. The data used in the analysis is from the questionnaire survey, where respondents are classified into four groups by age and occupation variables and regional consciousness of each group is analyzed. The study region is the whole administrative area of Hongsong-gun. Assuming that the residents are well representative of the residents of Hongsong-gun, generalization of the regional consciousness analized is summed up as follows. 1. The residents evaluate the living condition as moderate and indicate a difference among age groups in both absolute and relative evaluations.
