Abstract

The earliest development of a science park in Korea began at Taeduk Research Park(TRP). RP was constructed for ten years from 1973 through 1992. However, the negative image about le Park like an 'enclave', or a 'bus stop' still prevails. In contrast to this recognition, this study tends, through empirical inquiry, to grasp the possibility of spin-off formation and linkages in lch a research park as TRP. The results of the study are as follows: irst, twenty-five firms are spun off from the institutes in TRP with the introduction of the Ipport programmes for researcher's start-ups and the change of social recognition. Twenty nong these firms are on the business in Taejon, the parent organizations of whom are vemment-sponsored institutes. The builders and employees of these firms are highly educated ld deeply involved in research activities. These firms are built with individual financing. But the lses of financing through the public subscription of shares by researchers are recently increasing. he types of industry of these firms are various. They include electronics, technical consultancy, lachinery, genetic engineering, and software. These firms purchase input materials chiefly from le capital region and overseas. However, the market for these firms is distributed along the line ~ Seoul and Pusan.
