제주도 박물관의 특성변화와 지역관광개발

Abstract

본 연구에서는 문화관광자원이라 할 수 있는 박물관을 통한 지역관광개발의 가능성을 밝히기 위하여 최근 박물관의 수가 급증하고 있는 제주도를 사례로 박물관의 특성변화를 분석하고, 이에 대한 관광객의 반응을 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 제주도의 지역적 특성이 활용되었다는 점에서 장소연계박물관뿐만 아니라 장소비연계박물관 역시 지역의 관광 자원으로 편입될 수 있으며 이를 통하여 박물관은 지역의 관광개발에 활용 될 수 있다. 즉, 장소연계박물관은 박물관의 주제와 관련한 곳에 입지하고 주변경관 및 관광시설 등과 연계하여 박물관을 방문한 관광객의 지역성 인식을 강화시키고 있으며, 외지인이 수요를 고려하여 제주도에 설립한 장소비연계박물관은 관광시설 밀집 지역에 입지하고 주변경관과의 조화를 통하여 지역의 이미지에 부합함으로써 제주도의 관광매력을 증대시키는 문화관광으로 받아들여지고 있다.

This study looks at the case of Jeju Island, where the number of museums has lately been increas-ing shrply. Changes taking place in the characterics of Jeju Island's museums are analyzed and tourists' re-sponses to such changese are examined, to assess the possibility of regional tourism development trhogh museums. A summary ot the study's results is an follows. It was evident that in taking advantage of the regional character-istics of Jeju Island, not only place-linked museums but also place-unlinked museums could be used as a medium for transforming museum neighborhoods into tourist attractions; place-unlinked museums can increase the region's at-tractiveness as a tourist destination by harmonizing themselves with the surrounding landscape, thereby fitting in with the exotic image of Jeju Island.
