Abstract

This study examines the characteristics of rural settlement and the differentiation of the type of agriculture in Cheongwon-Gun. By empirical study largely based on questionnaire survey, it intends to clarify that how and why the characteristics of rural settlement and agricultural type are differentiated and that how the rural settlement type and agricultural type are associated. The results of the study are as follows. First, the characteristics of study area as urban fringe come up differently by Ris, the smallest administration unit. Second, classifying the Ris of study area to use the rates of population change and farm households change, seven rural settlement types are emerged hypothetically. Third, the agricultural types of study area also differentiated into four type. Fourth, the type of rurla settlement and that of agriculture are strongly associated each other. Finally, the agriculture of the peri-urban rurla area of medium-sized urban center such as study area is different from that of metropolitan fringe, for the strength of urban force is different. Unstability oof land ownership causes uncertainty of land use in metropolitan fringe agriculture, but unstability of labor force resulted from severe outmigration influences the agricultural and use in peri-urban area of medium-sized urban center.
