칸트의 황금률 비판과 유가의 충서(忠恕) 개념

Abstract

유가의 충서(忠恕) 개념은 칸트의 황금률 비판을 넘어설 수 있는가? 이 문제를 다룬 국내 연구에는 문병도와 임헌규가 있다. 문병도는 충(忠)을 한낱 서(恕)의 보조적인 의미로 여기고, 오직 서(恕)의 원리를 재해석함으로써 칸트의 비판을 넘어서고자 한다. 반면, 임헌규는 충(忠)과 서(恕)를 각각 독립된 의미를 지니는 것으로 파악하고, 충(忠)이 황금률인 서(恕)를 보완한다고 해석한다. 두 해석 중 어느 것이 더 타당한 해석인가? 나는 두 입장 중에서 임헌규의 입장에 동의한다. 따라서 이 글의 목적은 충(忠)이 서(恕)를 보완한다는 해석을 통해서 충서(忠恕) 개념이 어떻게 칸트의 황금률 비판을 넘어설 수 있는지를 분석하는 것이다. 그리고 이러한 해석을 바탕으로 유가의 충서(忠恕) 개념이 보편적 도덕법칙으로 타당한지 여부를 검토해 볼 것이다.

Kant criticizes the golden rule in Grundlegung zur Metaphysik der Sitten. The point of criticism is that the golden rule never corresponds with universal laws of morality. Then, how about zhõng-shù (忠恕) of Confucianism? Generally speaking, the shù (恕) of zhõng-shù (忠恕) is referred to as the golden rule. Does zhõng-shù (忠恕) not meet the universal laws of morality according to Kants golden rule critique? Moon Byung-do and Lim Heon-gyu are domestic researchers focusing on this problem. Moon Byung-do identifies the principle of shù (恕) construction on the universal laws of morality by setting logical problems, and Lim Heon-gyu emphasizes both shù (恕) and zhõng (忠) and through this he proves that the principle of zhõng-shù (忠恕) meets universal laws of morality. Which two interpretations are more valid? I agree with Lim Heon-gyus argument. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to analyze how zhõng-shù (忠恕) passes over Kants critique of the golden rule by means of the interpretation that zhõng (忠) complements shù (恕). Based on this interpretation, I will investigate whether zhõng-shù (忠恕) of Confucianism is based on the universal laws of morality or not.
