dc.description.abstract | In spite of the high incidence of anemia. especially
of iron deficiency nature. among Koreans.little has been studied in the field of iron and copper metabolism in this country. The authors determined the values of serum iron and copper of the healthy Koreans, for the purpose of the further study with their changes in various diseases. 1. Serum iron was measured by means of Klett·Su mmersons photo-electric colorimeter, employing 510m filter , according to the modified Barkans method, which was turned out to be most simple yet precise among the modification methodes, devised from the original Heilmeyers method. Serum copper was measured according to the Gubler-Laheys method , employing 350 mμ filter. 2. The materials were 100 cases of male and cases of female who were essentially healthy and hematologically normal. Their ages ranged from 18 to 54 years old. The mean value of serum iron in male was 114.0土2.48 ((1= 24. 8O) r%·. while that ill female was 93.3 土1.55 ((1= 15. 46) r%· In serum iron value there is a marked difference between male and female. The mean values of serum copper in male was 126.35土1. 20 ((1= 12. 26) r% .. while that in female was 126.5土1. 20 ((1= 12. 0) T%. In serum copper there is no difference between male and female. It is noticeable that these values are not much different from those of the foreign authors. 3. The values in 4 males and females measured before and after meal did not show the marked difference. 4. Thereexists no definite correlation between the values of serum irom and R.B.C. and Rb. values. | - |
