An investigation of the systolic blood pressure of
90 Korean healthy newborn infants within 48 hours
after birth was performed with a mercury sphygmomanometer
of HAKO utilizing a 3.5 cm wide cuff.
The systolic pressure of the right upper arm was
measured by the oscillometric method during sleep.
The results are as follows:
1) The average systolic pressure of Korean newborn
infants was 73.4 mmHg. (range 68 to 82 mmHg)
2) There was no remarkable difference in the systolic
pressure in male and female newborns(73.7
mmHg in males , 73.1 mmHg in females).
3) There appeared to be no correlation between the
systolic pressure and the height. body weight. or
gestational ages. 39 to 43 weeks.
4) A single measurement on each newborn. performed
at various hours of age, did not reveal any
significant difference in .values within the first 48
hours of life.
