Bulk heterojunction (BHJ) polymer solar cells (PSCs) based
on blending a conjugated polymer electron donor (D) and a
fullerene-derived electron acceptor (A) in the photoactive layer
have been studied extensively over the past decade. In general,
it is highly desirable to achieve a phase-separated, interpenetrating
bicontinuous network of donor and acceptor in the
blend fi lm at the length scale that is similar to the exciton diffusion
length (≈10–20 nm) in order to ensure effi cient exciton
dissociation and charge transport. At present, the state-of-theart
BHJ PSCs have already reached high power conversion effi -
ciency (PCE) of greater than 10%.
