루소의 시민교육: 개념, 역량 그리고 교육

Abstract

이글은 루소의 사상에 천착하여, 국가와의 관계 속에서 시민의 개념과 역량을 정의하고, 그런 역량을 함양하기 위한 교육론을 살펴봄으로써 한국의 시민교육에 대한 정치철학적 성찰에 기여하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 2장에서 『에밀』과 『사회계약론』에 천착하여 국가의 구성과 정치의 원리와 시민의 개념을 살펴보고, 3장에서는 부르주아에 대한 루소의 비판을 분석함으로써, 시민으로서 갖추어야 할 역량을 도출한다. 4장을 통해 시민의 역량을 함양하기 위한 교육론을 살펴봄으로써, 결론적으로 한국의 시민교육에 대해 루소의 교육사상이 가지는 함의를 부각시키고자 한다.

This article aims to contribute to a sort of speculations in dimension of political philosophy on civil education of Korea by defining the concept of citizen, reasoning the capabilities for it, and analyzing educational theories on them in Rousseaus works, especially Social Contract and Emile. In doing so, this article defines Rousseaus concept of citizen in its relationship to the concept of Republic in chapter 2. In chapter 3, this article analyses Rousseaus critics on the nature, mores, and behavior of bourgeois in order to draw out the capabilities of a good citizen. Moreover, this article investigates Rousseaus theories about how to cultivate such capabilities for children and men in chapter 4 and finally highlights the implications on political and educational realities in Korea.
