The purpose of the present sutdy is to analyse
seasonal variations of pregnancies and births in Korea.
The data on pregnancies and births from January 1966
through December 1975 were collected from the national
sampling survey. There was a sharp peak in pregnancies during the
period of February to June. The month of March is
shown to be the most high in pregnancies representing
the Standard Index Number 113.2.
Seasonal trends in pregnancies between urban and
rural areas were similar to each other.
The months of high marriage must be related to the
months of high pregnancies, though no exact information
on this could be obtained
On the other hand , there was a peak in births in
the month of May representing the Standard Index
Number 113.7. The data also show that there was n。
significant difference in fluctuation of births by month
between urban and rural areas. The high pregnancy
months were not corresponding to the month of high
births, since the data on pregnancies and births was
not exactly collected from cohort group
