박경리의 소설 『토지』에 나타난 아버지 상(像)과 그 교육적 역량

Abstract

이 연구는 박경리의 소설 『토지』에 나타난 아버지 상을 분석하고 그 교육적 시사점을 도출하고자 하는 시도이다. 이 연구에서 아버지 상은 원아버지가 물려 준 근원적 요인(정서적 기저와 제도적 조건)과 아버지 자신이 수행한 객체적 사건에 의해 형성된 아버지 자신의 개인적 문제를 중심으로 설정된다. 이 개인적 문제는 아버지 자신의 주체적 사건을 계기로 극복되기도 하고 극복되지 못하기도 하는데, 이 극복여부에 따라 자녀와의 상호작용에서 드러나는 아버지의 교육적 역량이 달라진다. 요컨대 이 연구에서 아버지 상은 아버지 자신의 개인적 문제의 극복여부라는 내용적 측면과 자녀와의 상호작용의 교육적 역량이라는 표현적 측면을 갖는다. 소설 『토지』에서 연구의 전제에 따라 선정된 아버지들은 조병수, 이용, 김한복, 이홍, 임명빈, 김한경, 김길상, 조찬하 등 모두 8명이다. 이 아버지들은 각기 고유한 아버지 상을 보여주지만, 아버지 자신의 개인적 문제의 극복여부와 자녀와의 상호작용의 교육적 역량에 따라 재분류될 수 있다. 결론적으로, 아버지가 행하는 자녀교육의 성패는 아버지 자신의 자기교육의 성패에 달려 있다고 말할 수 있다. 그리고 아버지 자신의 개인적 문제의 극복은 종교적 차원과 이념적 차원이라는 더 큰 자아에 의해 가능하다.

This thesis tries to analyse the images of fathers and extract the educational suggestions from the novel Toji written by Park Kyung-ni. Fathers have inherited the 'basic factors' from their fathers(proto-fathers), and done the 'objective events'. In this thesis, the images of fathers are extracted from the 'individual problem' which are formed by the basic factors and objective events. Whether fathers have overcome their painful problems or not determines the success or failure of the educational communications with their offsprings. In sum, the images of fathers have two aspects, one, the content aspect which is whether fathers overcome their individual

problems or not, the other, the expression aspect which is how much fathers have the educational power on their offsprings. The eight fathers in the novel, Jo Byung-soo, Lee Yong, Kim Han-bok, Lee Hong, Lim Myung-bin, Kim Han-kyung, Kim Gil-sang, and Jo Chan-ha are chosen based on several assumptions of the thesis and show unique image of father respectively. I will try to categorize the eight images according to the overcoming of their problem(content aspect) and their educational power on offsprings(expression aspect). Finally the success or failure of father's self education which is realizable by his expanded self such as the religious love or the ideological cause, decides the educational power on his offsprings.
