사회제도신뢰의 인과구조에 대한 한·미 비교연구: 단체참여와 사회적지원의 매개효과분석

Abstract

이 연구는 사회경제적 지위, 사회단체참여, 사회적 지원, 사회제도신뢰 사이의 복합적 관계를 규명하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 사회적 자본의 개념에 대한 이론적․경험적 맥락에서 논의한 후, 각기 다른 맥락적 특성을 지닌 한국과 미국 양 국가를 선정하여 국제 사회종합조사(ISSP) 자료모듈인 KGSS 2004와 GSS 2001 자료를 대상으로 검증하였다. 모형검증의 분석결과, 첫째, 사회단체참여는 한국에서 사회제도신뢰에 대한 유의미하지 않은 상관관계와 유의미한 정(+)의 인과관계로 작동하는데 비해 미국에서는 상관 및 인과관계 모두 유의미하게 나타났다. 둘째, 사회단체참여가 한국에서 사회적 지원의 연결망활용에 강한 정(+)의 인과적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 반면에, 미국은 약한 정(+)의 인과적 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회단체참여의 중요한 인과변인인 사회경제적 지위는 양 국가 모두 강한 정(+)의 인과적 영향력을 미치고 있다. 넷째, 사회경제적 지위는 사회적 자본의 두 가지 구성개념(사회제도신뢰 및 사회적 지원)에 대한 인과적 영향은 사회단체참여에 의해 매개되었다는 사실 또한 이 연구에서 밝혀냈다. 이상의 분석결과를 토대로 이 연구는 각기 다른 구조적 특성을 지닌 한국과 미국 양 국가를 대상으로 사회적 자본의 불평등, 개인적 차원에서의 사회적 자본, 사회연결망 등을 다차원적으로 비교분석하여 제시되었으며, 또한 이 연구의 제한점과 후속연구를 위한 발전적 제언도 설명되었다.

This Study explores the multiplicative relationships among socioeconomic status, association participation, social support, social institutions trust in Korea and the United States. To do this, a set of hypotheses concerning the relationships among socioeconomic status, association participation, social support, trust in social institutions are set forth and subjected to an empirical assessment by using data set collected from KGSS (Korean General Social Survey) 2004 and GSS (General Social Survey) 2001 out of the ISSP (International Social Survey Planning) Modules. Analysis of data in terms of ML (Maximum Likelihood) procedure in LISREL8.52 was used and the results were the followings: (1) The unit effects of socioeconomic status on association participation were significant to the two nations. (2) The unit effects of association participation status on social support were significant to the two nations. but They were appear to be an important predictor to Korea (3) The unit effects of association participation on trust in social institutions were significant to the two nations. (4) Association participation was especially in shaping social support and trust in social institutions to the two nations. This study is interpreted that further research on the topic of social capital are raised with elaborating the measure on the socio-psychological variables such as political efficacy, consciousness of social class and so forth, coupled with advertising a few limitation of this study.
