붉은 한글운동의 기원 - 소련시대 연해주 고려인 사회의 언어운동

Abstract

해방 이후 북한은 문맹퇴치운동을 시작으로 하는 위로부터의 급격한 한글운동을 전개한다. 식민지기에 좌절되었던 조선어의 국(민)어화 기획이 본격적으로 궤도에 오른 것이다. 조선어는 지배언어/공용어가 되기 위한 언어 내적 정비뿐 만 아니라, 그것의 대중적 기반을 만드는 교육어로서의 지위를 확보하면서 그때까지 한반도에서 일본어가 차지했던 언어적 지위를 급진적으로 대체해 갔다. 그 결과, 1948년에 문맹자의 98%가 문맹을 탈피했으며, 잔존 문맹자에 대한 완전 퇴치 운동도 1950년으로 끝나게 된다. 또한 문맹퇴치운동과 깊은 관련을 맺은 언어 개혁의 상징으로서 1949년 3월에는 한자를 폐지하고 모든 출판물과 국가 공문서들에서 한자 사용을 완전히 금지하는 결정적인 조치를 취하여, 동아시아에서 완벽하게 한자의 폐지에 성공한 유일한 나라가 되었다.

This paper deals with the linguistic movement by the ethnic Korean residents of the

Soviet Maritime Province, approaching it as a part of the Korean cultural independence

movement. This movement by the Korean settlers and their descendants is understood to

constitute one of the roots of the linguistic radicalism of the social DPRKs first

formative years. Such possibility may be confirmed by the comparative analysis of

DPRKs early language policies and Soviet-Korean language experiments, which

demonstrate significant similarities from the viewpoint of their influence not only on status, but also on the corpus of Korean.
