규장각 소장본을 통해 본 조선 중·후기 <중용> 연구 경향

Abstract

이 논문은 규장각에 소장되어 있는 <중용> 판본의 종류와 형식적 구성 체제에 대하여 살펴보고 이를 통해 조선 중·후기 <중용> 연구의 경향을 고찰하고자 한다. 특히 이 글은 성리학의 형이상학적 관점과 도덕 실천적 관점이라고 하는 <중용>에 대한 두 가지 핵심적인 연구 방법론에 따라 조선 중·후기에 <중용>을 연구한 학자들의 중용관에 어떠한 특징이 있는가를 해명하고자 한다. 조선시대 <중용>에 관한 연구는 권근의 <입학도설(入學圖說)>에 나오는 <중용수장분석지도(中庸首章分釋之圖)>와 <중용분절변의(中庸分節辨議)>가 그 시초라고 할 수 있다. 중용수장분석지도 에서 그는 천명(天命)에서 치중화(致中和)까지 전개되는 성도교(性道敎)가 모두 하늘에 근본을 두는 것으로 그 중심으로서 도(道)는 잠시도 떠날 수 없는 것으로 규정하였다. 권근의 <중용>에 대한 이해는 성리학적인 기초를 가지면서도 실천의 방법과 결과를 강조하고 있다. 이는 권근이 <중용>을 이해할 때 한편으로 주희의 <중용장구>의 형이상학적 관점을 수용하면서도 따른 한편 도덕 실천의 방법과 그 실현의 방향에서 <중용>을 이해하고자 하는 것을 뜻한다.

This essay examines kinds and formal composition system of block books of The Doctrine of the Mean housed in Kyujanggak and investigated research tendency about it in the middle and late periods of Joseon Dynasty. Especially, it establishes which characteristics have view of golden mean of several scholars in the middle and late periods of Joseon Dynasty according to two core study methodology of The Doctrine of the Mean of the metaphysical viewpoint of Neo-Confucianism and moral practice. If writer arrange characteristic of block books of The Doctrine of the Mean housed in Kyujanggak, it can be summed up several articles for this At first, There are striking differences between block books like Jungyongjanggu, Jungyongunhae, and Jungyongjanggudaejeon published in the country and handbook of The Mean built by the individual among block books of The Doctrine of the Mean of Kyujanggak. The second, If one watch the publication time, while Jungyongunhae, and Jungyongjanggudaejeon was published consistently since the mid Joseon Dynasty, Jungyongjanggu was pressed relatively in the late period since yeongzo era to sunzo one. To put it concretely, we can say that study of Jungyongjanggu and Jungyongjanggudaejeon published consistently in the country with great interest among block books of The Doctrine of the Mean of Kyujanggak has the directivity affirming metaphysical viewpoint of Neo-Confucianism. Whereas Jungyonggukyeongyeoneyi of Lee Eonjeok, Jungyongsabyeonlok of Park Sedang and Jungyongjajam of Jeong Yakyong show understanding method of Jungyong to emphasize moral practice For modern studies of The Mean, it is necessary to establish viewpoint through which one distinguishes between Junghwa[中和] as core term of theory of mind and nature and Jungyong[中庸] as concept for everyday moral practice. Going one step forward, it Is also to formulate timely research methodology that one deduces life or ecological value as modern meaning involved in the golden Mean.
