L. v. Beethoven, «Piano Sonata No. 22 in F Major, op. 54», F. Liszt, «Mephisto Waltz No. 1», C. Debussy, «Suite bergamasque», M. Ravel, «Le tombeau de Couperin»에 대한 연주 및 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 본인의 석사과정 졸업 연주 프로그램인 루트비히 판 베토벤(Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827년)의 «피아노 소나타 22번 바장조, 작품 번호 54»(Piano Sonata No. 22 in F Major, op. 54), 프란츠 리스트(Franz Liszt, 1811-1886년)의 «메피스토 왈츠 1번»(Mephisto Waltz No. 1), 클로드 드뷔시(Claude Debussy, 1862-1918년)의 «베르가마스크 모음곡»(Suite bergamasque), 모리스 라벨(Maurice Ravel, 1875-1937년)의 «쿠프랭의 무덤»(Le tombeau de Couperin)에 대한 연구이다. 이 연구의 목적은 각 작품의 구조 및 특징을 분석하여 작품에 대한 이해를 높이고, 연주법 해설을 통하여 실제 연주를 용이하게 하는 데에 있다. 루트비히 판 베토벤은 고전주의를 대표하는 독일의 작곡가이다. «피아노 소나타 22번 바장조, 작품 번호 54»는 그의 중기 피아노 소나타에 해당된다. 총 2악장의 구성으로 1악장은 미뉴에트(minuet) 형식이며 2악장은 상동곡인, 소규모의 소나타이다. 1악장의 미뉴에트와 트리오(trio) 부분의 결합을 통해 통일성을 추구하면서, 끊임없이 계속되는 2악장까지 하나의 흐름으로 연주하여야 하는 작품이다. 프란츠 리스트는 낭만주의를 대표하는 헝가리의 피아노 연주자이자 작곡가로, 피아노곡에 관현악적 특징을 나타내는 경향이 있다. «메피스토 왈츠 1번»은 그의 관현악곡인 «레나우의 「파우스트」에 의한 두 개의 에피소드»(Zwei Episoden aus Lenaus 「Faust」) 중 2. 마을 선술집에서의 춤(Der Tanz in der Dorfschenke)의 피아노 편곡이다. 원작 「파우스트」에 등장하는 각 등장인물들에 대응되는 주제를 파악하여 관현악적 음향을 구현하며 연주하여야 하는 작품이다. 클로드 드뷔시는 인상주의의 기틀을 다진 프랑스의 대표적인 작곡가이다. 그의 인상주의 작곡 방식이 확립되기 전의 초기작인 «베르가마스크 모음곡»은 고전 양식을 차용한 근대 모음곡으로 신고전주의 양상을 띠는 곡이다. 총 4곡으로 구성된 각 곡들에 쓰인 고전 양식에 근대적 화성 어법 및 작곡 기법을 결합시켜 연주하여야 하는 작품이다. 모리스 라벨은 신고전주의를 추구한 프랑스의 대표적인 작곡가이다. 그의 마지막 피아노곡인 «쿠프랭의 무덤»은 고전 양식을 차용한 근대 모음곡으로, 프랑스 작곡가인 프랑수아 쿠프랭(François Couperin, 1668-1733년)이 활동했던 바로크 시대의 음악에 대한 존경을 표하고 있다. 또한, 각 곡에는 제1차 세계 대전 참전자들인 그의 친구들을 추모하는 문구가 담겨 있다. 드뷔시의 곡과 마찬가지로 이 곡 역시 각 곡들에 쓰인 고전 양식에 근대적 화성 어법 및 작곡 기법을 결합시켜 연주하여야 하는 작품이다.

This thesis is a reseach on L. v. Beethoven, «Piano Sonata No. 22 in F Major, op. 54», F. Liszt, «Mephisto Waltz No. 1», C. Debussy, «Suite bergamasque», and M. Ravel, «Le tombeau de Couperin»(or A memorial piece toCouperin) which were the programs of my masters degree recital. The purpose of this study is to analyze the structure and characteristics of each piece to enhance understanding of the piece and to facilitate actual performance through explanation of method of performance. Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer who represents Classicism. «Piano Sonata No. 22 in F Major, op. 54» is a piano sonata in his mid-period. This piece is composed of two movements, one in Minuet form and the second in perpetuum mobile, which are small-scale sonatas. This work requires combination of minuet and trio parts in the first movement to maintain consistent flow even in the second movement and in turn gain unity throughout the whole piece. Franz Liszt is a Hungarian pianist and composer representing Romanticism, who presented orchestral features in piano pieces. «Mephisto Waltz No. 1» is a piano arrangement of his orchestral music, 2. Der Tanz in the Dorfschenke(or Dance in the Village Tavern) of «Zwei Episoden aus Lenau's 「Faust」»(or Two Episodes by Lenau's 「Faust」). When playing this piece, themes corresponding to each character in the original Faust should be identified and need to focus on realizing orchestral sound. Claude Debussy was a leading French composer who laid the foundation for Impressionism. «Suite bergamasque», his early work before his impressionistic style of composition was established, is a modern composition in classical style and takes on a neoclassical style. The modern harmony expression and composition techniques need to be combined with the classical style used in each piece. Maurice Ravel was a leading French composer who pursued Neoclassicalism. His last piano piece, «Le tombeau de Couperin», is a modern suite of classical music, which shows respect to the Baroque music of French composer François Couperin(1668–1733). Also, each piece contains a phrase in memory of his friends, who were World War I veterans. Like Debussy's, the work requires the combination of the classical style used in each piece, with the modern harmonic grammar and compositional techniques.
