초기 청소년 권장문학도서에 나타난 공동체지향목적 분석

Abstract

본 연구에서는 초기 청소년 대상 권장문학도서에 나타난 공동체의 문제와 공동체 문제 해결 방안과 관련된 내용을 분석하고 이를 통해서 향후 초기 청소년 공동체지향목적 발달 교육에 있어서 권장문학도서를 어떻게 활용할 수 있는지 확인하였다. 어린이·청소년 권장도서 발행 기관인 국립어린청소년도서관, 어린이도서연구회, 행복한아침독서에서 중복으로 추천한 초기 청소년 (초등학교 5학년, 6학년) 대상 권장문학도서 중 약 20%에 해당하는 37권의 도서에서 공동체의 문제와 공동체 문제 해결 방안과 관련된 내용을 다루고 있었다. 권장문학도서에 나타난 공동체 문제와 관련된 핵심주제는 학교폭력, 사회·경제적 권력 집단에 의한 횡포와 공동체 구성원의 권리와 자유통제, 차별과 편견의 문제로 나타났다. 또한, 2015 개정 도덕과, 사회과 교육과정과 비교해서 초기 청소년기 학생들이 정규교육과정에서 쉽게 접하기 어려운 공동체의 문제(예: 동물학대, 가정폭력, 사회·경제적 권력 집단에 의한 횡포와 자유통제, 저소득 계층의 어려움)들이 권장문학도서에 나타났다. 공동체의 문제를 해결하기 위한 방안으로 초기 청소년 권장문학도서에서는 공동체지향의 가치인 이웃에 대한 관심과 배려, 공동체 구성원의 협력과 연대, 공동체의 안녕을 위한 평화추구, 사회적 다양성의 존중이 강조되었다. 또한, 문제 해결을 위해서 공동체 구성원이 갖추어야 하는 자질과 역량에 관해서는 사회적 부당함과 어려움에 맞서는 의지와 용기를 강조했다. 마지막으로 문제 해결을 위한 실천 행동에 대해서는 민주적 절차를 통한 문제 제기 방식(문제 공론화, 비폭력 시위, 법적 절차를 통한 문제 해결)과 차별과 편견을 없애기 위한 노력(편견 벗어나기와 유사점을 통해서 가까워지기)을 구체적으로 제시하고 있었다. 초기 청소년 권장문학도서에 나타난 공동체 문제 해결 방안은 2015 개정 도덕과, 사회과 교육과정에서 강조하는 공동체 지향의 핵심 가치인 인권과 자유보장, 사회적 다양성 존중, 이웃에 대한 관심과 배려, 협력과 연대, 평화추구, 자연과의 공존을 반영하고 있었다. 그리고 실질적 문제 해결 방안에 있어서는 사회과 교육과정에서 강조하는 민주적 절차를 통한 문제 해결 방식과 사회과와 도덕과 교육과정에서 모두 강조하는 사회적 다양성 존중과 상대방에 대한 차별과 편견을 없애기 위한 노력을 포함하고 있었다. 권장문학도서 중 국내 창작 도서와 국외 번역 도서 모두에서 공동체의 차별과 편견의 문제를 핵심주제로 강조하고 있었다. 하지만 국내 도서의 경우에는 다문화 가정과 외국인 노동자에 대한 차별과 편견의 문제를 강조했다면, 국외 도서의 경우에는 종교적 차이, 인종, 장애로 인한 차별과 편견의 문제를 강조하고 있었다. 공동체 문제 해결 방식에 있어서 국내 도서와 국외 도서 모두 공동체 구성원의 협력과 연대, 부당함과 어려움에 맞서는 의지와 용기, 이웃에 대한 관심과 도움을 강조했다. 하지만 국외 도서의 경우에는 평화추구와 사회적 다양성 존중과 같이 차별과 편견 문제에 대응하는 공동체지향의 가치에 대해서 강조했다면, 국내 도서의 경우에는 객관적인 상황판단 능력과 법적 절차를 통한 문제 해결 방안에 대해서 강조하는 특징을 보였다. 이와 같은 결과를 통해서 도출한 공동체지향목적 발달 교육에서 있어서 권장문학도서의 활용방안은 다음과 같다. 권장문학도서는 초기 청소년기 학생들이 정규교육과정을 통해서 쉽게 접하기 어려운 공동체 문제점을 파악 있도록 도움을 주고, 공동체지향의 가치의 중요성에 대해서 인식할 수 있게 해주며, 공동체 문제 해결을 위해서 개인이 갖춰야 하는 자질과 역량에 대해서 학습할 수 있도록 하는 역할을 할 수 있다. 그리고 권장문학도서는 공동체의 차별과 편견의 문제 그리고 민주적 절차를 통한 문제 해결 방식을 학습하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 또한, 국내 도서의 경우에는 우리 사회의 사회적 소수자에 대한 차별과 편견의 문제에 대해서 초기 청소년기 학생들이 관심을 갖고 이를 해결하기 위한 목표를 함양하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 국외 도서를 통해서는 사회과 및 도덕과 교육과정에서 강조하는 지구촌의 문제들을 간접적으로 대리학습하고, 차별과 편견 그리고 종교적 갈등으로 인한 폭력의 문제들을 해결하는 방안에 대해서 학습하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

The aim of this study was to investigate the themes present in recommended literature for Korean early adolescents (fifth and sixth grade elementary students) regarding social purpose development. The study utilized content analysis and keyword network analysis to examine the topics related to community issues and their solutions in the recommended literature. The findings were used to discuss the effective utilization of recommended literature for promoting social purpose development in early adolescents. The main results were as follows: Firstly, out of 167 literature books recommended by the National Library for Children and Young Adults, the Korean Children's Book Association, and Happy Morning Reading, 37 books dealt with community problems and their solutions. Secondly, the most prevalent issues related to community problems in the recommended literature were school bullying, oppression by economic and social powers, violations of basic rights and freedoms, and prejudice and discrimination. Moreover, the recommended literature addressed problems not covered in the regular school curriculum, such as the difficulties faced by low-income families, animal abuse, and domestic violence. Thirdly, the recommended literature emphasized community-oriented values, such as consideration for neighbors, cooperation and solidarity among community members, pursuit of peace, and respect for diversity, in solving community problems. These values were also emphasized in the regular school curriculum. Additionally, the recommended literature stressed the importance of perseverance and courage in overcoming adversity and addressing social injustice in solving community problems. The recommended literature also suggested practical approaches, such as raising the issue through a democratic process (public discussion, nonviolent demonstration, and legal channels) and eliminating discrimination and prejudice through understanding and avoiding blind judgment. Fourthly, both domestic and overseas literature recommended for early adolescents emphasized prejudice and discrimination as a major community problem. Domestic literature focused on prejudice and discrimination against multicultural families and foreign workers, while overseas literature emphasized prejudice and discrimination against different races, religious groups, and disabled people. Domestic literature emphasized the importance of objective judgment and legal solutions in resolving community problems, while overseas literature emphasized the importance of community-oriented values. In conclusion, the results of this study can be used to guide the effective utilization of recommended literature in promoting early adolescents' social purpose development. The literature can help early adolescents identify community problems, raise awareness of community-oriented values and essential qualities, learn about and address discrimination and prejudice, and solve community problems through appropriate civic and political manners. Domestic literature can provide insight into discrimination against minorities in Korean society, while overseas literature can broaden their understanding of discrimination and religious conflicts worldwide.
