Musical Cryptography의 한글 적용 연구

Abstract

Musical Cryptography란 음악적 아이디어 혹은 음악적 상징 등을 포함하는 모든 종류의 암호 기법을 일컫는다. 본 논문에서는 Musical Cryptography 사례에 대한 연구를 통해 한글을 활용한 음악적 암호법에 대해 연구 및 고안의 과정을 다루고자 한다. 다시 말해, Musical Cryptography의 사례 연구를 통해 각각의 Musical Cryptography의 속성과 사용법들을 살펴본 후, 이를 바탕으로 한글을 활용한 음악적 암호법의 연구를 진행할 것이다. Musical Cryptography의 다양한 사례를 연구하면서 필자는 Musical Cryptography를 다루어왔던 학자 및 작곡가들에게 뚜렷한 목적이 있었음을 추론할 수 있었다. 즉 Musical Cryptography를 활용하는 데에는 크게 두 가지의 목적이 있는데, 첫 번째는 작곡을 위한 모티브를 만들어내는 작곡 기법으로서의 Musical Cryptography에 집중되어 있는 형태이고, 두 번째는 의도된 메시지를 외부로부터 보호하기 위한 수단으로서 Musical Cryptography를 활용하는 것이다. 첫 번째는 작곡을 위한 모티브를 위한 Musical Cryptography는 작곡된 작품에 숨겨진 의미를 악보만으로 해석하는 것은 불가능에 가까우나, 손쉽게 모티브를 작곡할 수 있는 작곡 기법이라는 특징이 있다. 두 번째 Musical Cryptography의 방식은 해당 방식을 고안한 학자들은 자신의 기법을 활용하여 작곡한 음악이 전해진 경우가 드물다. 하지만 악보만으로 숨겨진 메시지를 정확하게 해석하는 것이 가능하도록 고안 하였다는 특징이 있다.

이러한 사례들을 바탕으로 본고의 본론에서는 작곡 행위가 가능하면서 동시에 작품에 쓰인 메시지를 온전하게 해석하는 것이 가능한 한글을 활용한 음악적 암호법 모델을 제시하고자 한다. 또한 본고에서는 제시된 한글을 활용한 음악적 암호법이 실제로 어떻게 활용 가능한지를 제시하기 위해 한용운(1879-1944)의 시 님의 침묵에서 사용된 시어를 음표로 암호화하여 피아노 5중주로 작곡한 작품을 통해 구체적인 예시를 제시함으로써 한글을 활용한 음악적 암호법의 가능성을 제시할 것이다.

Musical Cryptography refers to all kinds of cryptographic techniques, including musical ideas or musical symbols. In this paper, through research on the case of Musical Cryptography, i will deal with the process of research and design on 'musical cryptography using Hangul'. In other words, through the case study of Musical Cryptography, the attributes and usage of each Musical Cryptography will be examined, and based on this, the study of Musical Cryptography using Hangeul will be conducted. While studying various cases of musical cryptography, I was able to infer that there was a clear purpose for scholars and composers who had dealt with Musical Cryptography. In other words, the use of Musical Cryptography has two main purposes: the first is a form focused on 'Musical Cryptography' as a composition technique that creates a motif for composition, and the second is to use musical cryptography as a means of protecting the intended message from the outside. The first is that musical cryptography for motifs for composition is a composition technique that can easily compose a motif, although it is almost impossible to interpret the meaning hidden in a composed work only with a score. As for the second musical cryptography method, it is rare for scholars who devised the method to deliver 'music' composed using their own techniques. However, it is characterized by being designed to accurately interpret hidden messages only with music scores.

Based on these examples, the main body of this paper aims to present a musical cryptography using Hangul model that allows compositional actions and at the same time fully interpreting the messages used in the work. In addition, this paper will present the possibility of a musical cryptography using Hangul by providing specific examples through works composed of Piano Quintet by encrypting poems used in Han Yong-woon(1879-1944), Silence of Love in notes to show how the presented Musical cryptography using Hangul can be used in practice.
